School Days...School Days...Dear Old Golden Rule Days...

What a big week for us! I went back to work and Diego started school! Monday was a VERY sad day for me, but at the same time the best for all of us. X and I both dropped him off and then raced back before 5 pm to pick him up. He did AWESOME! Of course, X called the school to check on him and I called twice ! He was sleeping when we dropped him off, so we gently laid him in his crib (which is decorated with pictures of our family), wiped our tears away and left him to his new teachers and school mates. I cried and talked to X all the way to work and cried a little when I got there. I was ok by lunch, but missing Diego like crazy!

Each day since he has been dropped off with a big smile and picked up the same way....so I know he is getting good care and lots of attention from this teachers. They love how he dresses, especially his shoes, and always say "Oh boy, Diego is going to be spoiled here...the other kids will be jealous!"

He is in a class with 7 other children, 2 who are even younger than he is! He does art on Mondays and was chosen as 'Artist of the Week'; I was SO PROUD! He also reads books everyday, has tummy time, plays with bubbles, has a developmental lesson plan and is starting sign language.

On Tuesday, Diego went to school in his St Patrick's day green onesie and celebrated the day by making a shamrock hat!

We weren't able to make a flight to El Paso, TX last weekend. We were bummed that we were not able to spend time with X's family, especially Grandma Lizzie, and cousins Julian and Alexandra. We hope the flights look better this weekend and can travel!

Love to everyone and thanks for checking in on us !

Trip to Ohio!

We took our first airplane ride this past weekend and had a great time in Ohio! Diego did great on both flights. He even got his own seat and was able to ride in his car seat on both flights! The flight attendants said "Oh he is sooo cute" and fellow passengers commented on what a good baby he was!

On Friday night we had dinner at El Mariachi with Diego's Grandpa Rick, Grandma Becky and Aunt Erin. Of course, everywhere we went in Hamilton, Diego was the star!

We had Saturday lunch at Great Aunt Connie's house and got to hang with Great Uncles Rob, John & Bob, Great Aunts Connie, Debbie & Susan, Cousins Michelle, David, Tracy, Scott, Stephanie, Alex, Emily, Kristi, and friends Amber & Caitlin. We headed back to Grandpa Rick's house for pizza dinner with Grandpa Rick & Grandma Becky, Aunt Erin, Great Uncle Rob & Great Aunt Becky, Cousins Abby & Reece, Great Grandmother Lois and friend Leila.

Diego loved meeting his family and was a great boy the entire weekend. We were back in Dallas by Sunday morning @ 8:45 am to spend the rest of the day napping and cuddling together. This is the last week of my maternity leave, so we are getting in as many naps and lazy days together before I go back to work and Diego starts school on Monday March 16th.

Diego will be attending the infant program at Children's Courtyard Monday through Friday from about 9 am to 6 pm. He has two teachers, Ms Carrie and Ms Robina and 6 other children in his class (from 4 - 18 months). He has a daily lesson plan, does art work every Monday, learns sign language at 5 months and learns English and Spanish words too! He gets to spend time outside everyday (weather permitting), has daily tummy time, and will have lots of fun toys to play with and learn about. Although I am ready to return to work and I know that going to school with be great for him, I am still dreading those first couple days of drop offs. I won't be wearing any mascara to work during the first week :(

We head to El Paso, Texas (about an hour plane ride from Dallas) next weekend to visit X's family and friends. We can't wait to visit cousins, grandparents and friends there too! Wish us luck on our next trip and on our school start (I think I will need it more than Diego).

Check back next week for pictures from our next trip!

5 pounds + 5 inches in 2 months!

Check out Diego's stats:
  • 13 pounds (90th percentile for weight)
  • 24 inches (80th percentile for height)
  • He has gained 5 pounds & grown 5 inches in 2 months!

Diego had his 2 month check up with his pediatrician, Michelle, yesterday and is doing great! (He has a crush on Michelle and is always on his best behavior at the doctor's office!) He had to get three shots and an oral vaccination and now has a Tasmanian devil band aid on each thigh. He was happy to get a Diego sticker on the way out of the office.

We had a busy weekend with lots of visitors! Diego got to spend time with his Grandma Kelly (Susan's mom) and "Drampa" Frank (X's dad) along with two of X's long time friends, Tom and Noe. Diego is starting to baby talk and had LOTS to say to all of our visitors. Thanks Tom for the great pictures this weekend - they are priceless!

Now that Diego has the ok by his doc to fly, we are off to Ohio this weekend! This will be our first airplane trip and we can't wait to visit our family and friends in Ohio! Wish us luck and we will check back in with you next week!
